About

Who we are

Hype Free Reviews is an editorial site covering 11 product categories with a small, selected catalogue of 41 items. Some links earn affiliate commissions; our marketplace-based scoring formula does not include commissions.

What we do

We pick a category, work out which questions actually determine whether a product is worth buying, and then answer those questions in writing. Sometimes that means reading ingredient lists. Sometimes it means comparing owner reports of fit against listed dimensions. We describe what the evidence supports; we do not imply that we measured or tested a product ourselves.

We are deliberately organised by category rather than by brand. A brand page tells you what we found about one company. A category page tells you what to look for regardless of who made the product — which stays useful for years, while a product listing may not.

How we choose what to cover

We keep the catalogue small on purpose. A shortlist you can read in a few minutes is more useful than a database you will never finish, so we cover a handful of products per category rather than everything that exists. A product has to be genuinely representative of a common need to earn a place; we would rather list two honest options than pad a category to a round number.

Selection depends on what is available through our affiliate partners. That affects which products appear, never how they are rated. Where a better-known product is missing, it is usually because we could not source it, not because of its score.

How our scores work

A numeric score weights a product's marketplace average rating by how many ratings it has, so a 4.8 from a handful of buyers does not outrank a 4.6 from thousands. It is a summary of shopping-platform feedback, not a hands-on test, and it is displayed with that caveat wherever it appears. Our written assessments are separate: they describe what a sampled set of customer comments supports and where it falls short. General guides and category comparisons carry no product score.

The full formula, its limits and our correction process are set out in the editorial policy.

How we are funded

When a reader clicks a link to a retailer and buys something, we may receive a commission. The retailer controls its own prices and terms; we do not display prices here. We do not sell advertising space, accept payment for reviews, or accept payment for a place in a ranking.

Affiliate eligibility affects which products appear here, not the score formula. Our written product assessments separately describe what a sampled set of customer comments supports and where it falls short.

What we will not do

  • Publish a score that was influenced by a commercial relationship.
  • Invent testing we did not perform, or quote a test result without saying where it came from.
  • Use manufacturer photography and present it as our own.
  • Write medical, dental or veterinary advice. We describe products; licensed professionals treat people and animals.
  • Hide the fact that a link earns us money.

Who writes this

Articles are attributed to the Hype Free Reviews Editorial Team and draw on product listings, manufacturer specifications where available, and sampled customer comments for product-specific reviews. Every article has a byline and publication date; any update is dated when made.

Corrections and contact

If you find a factual error, tell us and we will fix it. Send the article URL and the specific claim you believe is wrong to [email protected]; the contact page explains what to include. Substantive corrections are dated at the foot of the article rather than quietly edited away.
