Our assessment
Buyers agree strongly on cleaning and on solar charging: this thing keeps a pool surface clear and mostly looks after its own power. The split is mechanical. A couple of owners, including one who first rated it five stars, describe impeller or gear noise developing within weeks, and durability is the most-discussed theme in the wider rating data. The practical limit is that it cleans the surface, not the floor, and it does not like competing with a hose or strong return jets.

In brief
This is the AIPER EcoSurfer S2, a solar-powered robotic skimmer that floats on the surface of a pool and continuously collects leaves, pollen, insects and fine debris, with an app for scheduling and remote control and both solar and cable charging. The marketplace average is 4.3 out of 5 across roughly 2,400 ratings. The distribution is 73 percent at five stars, 11 percent at four, and a one-star tail of about 8 percent. The sample of 13 comments is large enough to be worth reading, and it is dominated by longer-term owners describing months of use.
The pattern is easy to state: buyers almost universally praise how well it cleans the surface, and the disagreement is almost entirely about how long it keeps doing so.
Cleaning is the agreement, durability is the split
Buyers describe the surface result in strong terms. Leaves, pollen, insects, lint and fine dirt are collected before they sink, and several say the pool stays clean enough that they stopped skimming by hand. A couple pair it with a separate pool vacuum and report that the two together keep the water clear. The debris basket is repeatedly described as large and easy to empty, and the app as straightforward, with one buyer setting several custom schedules a day and another steering it remotely to a specific spot.
Charging is the second consistent theme. Several buyers report that after the first full charge the solar panel keeps it running without ever plugging it in again, and a couple note that having a cable as a fallback matters in weaker sun or winter. One buyer describes the panel holding the battery near a partial charge rather than full and treats that as deliberate battery care. It is worth saying plainly that the runtime figures in these comments are buyers’ impressions, not measurements.
Durability is where the sample genuinely splits, and it is the most-discussed theme in the wider rating data. A couple of buyers describe the same mechanical symptom: a clicking or squeaking noise from the impeller or gears that appears after some use. One traces it to the filter box not seating fully, so the gears intermittently miss; the other, a buyer who first rated it five stars, downgraded after a couple of weeks when a rear propeller began to seize and squeak. A separate two-star account describes repeated impeller clogging in heavy pollen and the same clacking sound. Amazon’s own summary of the wider corpus records durability as the mixed point, including a report of a unit stopping after several months. These are a minority of the comments, but they are specific and repeatable enough to name.
Two practical limits recur and are worth knowing before buying. It is a surface skimmer, not a floor cleaner, so it does not replace a robot that scrubs the bottom. And a couple of buyers report it tangling with things already in the pool: one with a floating vacuum hose, another who found it could not make headway against the return jets while the pump was running and so runs it only when the pump is off.
We have not tested this pool skimmer.
Bottom line
Worth considering if your main problem is surface debris and you want something that runs itself on solar for most of the year, and you accept that it handles the top of the water rather than the floor. The reservation to carry in is mechanical: a minority of owners, including some who were initially delighted, report impeller or gear noise developing within weeks to months, so buy from somewhere with a workable returns process.
